What Inspired The REP
The idea for The REP came to me during my time working as an account manager and collections agent for an auto loan company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Like many in the customer service world, my coworkers and I often found ourselves on the receiving end of extreme anger—customers hurling insults, questioning our intelligence, even making threats. And because many of those customers were local, the tension felt all the more real.
We used humor as a way to cope, sometimes joking about how easy it would be to confront them face-to-face, given all the personal information we had at our fingertips. Of course, we’d never act on those thoughts—but what if someone did?
That “what if” became the seed of this novel.
I wanted to explore what might happen if a man—overworked, underappreciated, struggling financially, and burdened by his own insecurities—finally snapped. The REP is the story of that descent. It’s dark, psychological, and deeply human.
Anyone who’s ever worked a high-pressure job or dealt with an irate customer will recognize something in this story—and maybe even catch themselves wondering, What if…?
